Matthew’s aim is to change client’s self-defeating cycles into a new meaningful and fulfilling approach to life. His approach includes understanding and changing patterns and behavior so that clients feel confidence and satisfaction in themselves, their relationships, and their lives. Matthew focuses on enhancing self awareness and putting oneself in a position of choice. This includes techniques which separate triggers and reactivity so that client’s can decide what they really want and choose how they act.
Matthew works with adults and adolescents with diverse identities and experiences. He connects with his clients by communicating genuine respect for people regardless of circumstance. Matthew is warm and compassionate and enjoys helping his clients in session and contributing to their wellbeing.
Matthew is dedicated to accumulating expertise in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), an evidence-based treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD. Matthew also has a background utilizing modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Matthew has utilized these modalities for the treatment of Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Substance Use Disorder. Matthew is in his element helping clients with issues such as grief, depression, low self-esteem, low motivation, anxiety, shame, guilt, aimlessness, insomnia, and relationship issues or codependency.
Education and Training
Matthew earned his Masters in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University. Matthew previously obtained a B.A. in Psychology from Carleton University. Matthew spent the past 5 years working with clients with complex needs and comorbid psychological disorders.
